SafeRide America Volunteer Program
Volunteer Reinstatement
If your volunteer scheduling privileges have been suspended, you may be eligible to complete SafeRide America’s Volunteer Reinstatement Process and return to active volunteer status.
SafeRide understands that life happens. Communication matters.
We do not expect volunteers to be perfect. Emergencies, vehicle problems, illness, work conflicts, and other unexpected situations can happen.
What we do expect is communication, reliability, preparation, and safe behavior. When a volunteer repeatedly fails to communicate, does not appear for a scheduled shift, arrives unable to safely perform the assignment, or seriously violates volunteer requirements, SafeRide may suspend that person’s volunteer scheduling privileges.
Why This Policy Exists
Registering for a SafeRide shift is more than simply expressing interest. When you sign up, we reserve a volunteer position for you and plan our professional driver staffing around the volunteers who have committed to participate.
1
Show Up
Register only for shifts you reasonably expect to attend. Respond to confirmation messages, arrive on time, and remain for the full scheduled assignment unless SafeRide approves otherwise.
2
Come Prepared
Arrive with a reliable vehicle, required documentation, sufficient fuel, a functioning phone and charger, and everything necessary to safely complete the assignment.
3
Be Fit for Duty
Volunteers must report sober, properly rested, awake, alert, and physically capable of safely completing the full driving assignment.
4
Stay in Communication
Volunteers must remain reachable and respond as soon as safely practical to SafeRide, dispatch, and their assigned Lead Driver before and throughout the shift.
Why Volunteer Privileges May Be Suspended
A suspension may result from a single serious incident or from a pattern of attendance, communication, preparation, safety, or conduct problems.
Examples may include:
- Failing to respond to required shift confirmation or other important SafeRide communications.
- Failing to appear for a scheduled or confirmed shift without appropriate communication.
- Repeated last-minute cancellations or repeated failure to honor scheduled commitments.
- Reporting for a shift without being properly prepared to complete the assignment.
- Reporting for a shift excessively fatigued or unable to remain awake, alert, and safe throughout the assignment.
- Reporting for a shift impaired or exhibiting reasonable signs of impairment from alcohol, marijuana, Delta-8, drugs, or another intoxicating substance.
- Failing to remain reachable or responsive during an active shift.
- Leaving a shift early without authorization.
- Unsafe driving or other conduct that creates an unnecessary safety risk.
- Bringing an unauthorized passenger to a volunteer assignment.
- Inappropriate, threatening, abusive, dishonest, or seriously unprofessional conduct.
- Repeated failure to follow reasonable SafeRide volunteer or safety requirements.
This list is not intended to describe every possible situation. SafeRide considers the seriousness, frequency, circumstances, and safety impact of each situation when determining the appropriate response.
Reinstatement Options
If SafeRide has determined that you are eligible for reinstatement, the applicable level will depend on whether your volunteer privileges have previously been reinstated.
Complete only the reinstatement option SafeRide instructed you to use. If you are unsure which option applies to you, contact SafeRide before making a payment.
First Suspension
Volunteer Reinstatement
$35
This is the standard reinstatement process for an eligible volunteer whose scheduling privileges have been suspended for the first time.
After the reinstatement process is completed, SafeRide will review your account and notify you when your scheduling privileges have been restored.
Second Suspension
Final Reinstatement
$100
If your privileges were previously reinstated and another qualifying violation occurred, SafeRide may offer one final opportunity for reinstatement.
After a Final Reinstatement, another serious or qualifying violation may result in permanent ineligibility for SafeRide’s volunteer program.
Important:
Do not make a reinstatement payment unless SafeRide has notified you that your volunteer privileges have been suspended and told you which reinstatement level applies to you. Selecting or paying a reinstatement fee does not automatically restore your volunteer scheduling privileges.
What You Are Agreeing To
Reinstatement is intended to provide another opportunity to participate while making sure expectations are clearly understood moving forward.
✓
I understand that registering for a SafeRide volunteer shift is a commitment and that a volunteer position may be reserved specifically for me.
✓
I understand that I am expected to respond to SafeRide confirmation messages and important communications.
✓
I understand that if I cannot attend or experience a problem, I am responsible for communicating with SafeRide as soon as reasonably possible.
✓
I understand that I must arrive prepared, sober, properly rested, alert, and capable of safely completing the full volunteer assignment.
✓
I understand that I must follow reasonable SafeRide safety, operational, communication, and conduct requirements.
✓
I understand that another qualifying violation after reinstatement may result in a higher reinstatement requirement or permanent ineligibility for the program.
Reinstatement Does Not Purchase Community-Service Hours
SafeRide America does not sell community-service hours. A reinstatement fee restores eligibility to participate in the volunteer program only when SafeRide approves reinstatement.
Payment of a reinstatement fee does not count toward community-service hours, does not guarantee any particular shift or number of hours, does not move a volunteer ahead of others, and does not replace the requirement to actually perform and complete service.
Every community-service hour reported or verified by SafeRide America must be legitimately worked.
Some Violations May Not Be Eligible for Reinstatement
Reinstatement is not automatic. SafeRide reserves the right to determine whether a suspended volunteer is eligible to return to the program.
Serious safety concerns, violence or threats, harassment, theft, fraud, deliberate falsification of community-service hours or records, dangerous conduct, serious dishonesty, or other significant violations may result in permanent ineligibility without an opportunity for paid reinstatement.
SafeRide may also permanently discontinue participation after repeated violations or after a volunteer has previously completed a Final Reinstatement.
What Happens After Reinstatement?
1
Complete the applicable reinstatement process.
Use the reinstatement option SafeRide instructed you to complete.
2
SafeRide reviews your status.
Your payment does not automatically reactivate your scheduling privileges.
3
Wait for confirmation from SafeRide.
SafeRide will let you know when your volunteer scheduling privileges have been restored.
4
Return to normal volunteer scheduling.
Once reinstated, you may participate in available volunteer opportunities according to SafeRide’s normal scheduling procedures.
While your volunteer privileges are suspended, please do not register for additional shifts, join waitlists, or attempt to obtain a last-minute volunteer opening through another SafeRide registration channel unless SafeRide specifically authorizes you to do so.
Believe Your Suspension Should Be Reviewed?
If you believe you responded appropriately, provided proper notice, were incorrectly identified as a no-show, experienced circumstances SafeRide should consider, or believe your suspension or reinstatement requirement was applied incorrectly, you may request a review before making a reinstatement payment.
Complete the Volunteer Suspension Review Request and provide as much information as possible. SafeRide will review the circumstances and determine whether the suspension and reinstatement requirement should remain in place, be modified, or be removed.
Submitting a review request does not automatically restore volunteer scheduling privileges. Please wait for SafeRide to notify you of the decision before registering for another shift.
Frequently Asked Questions
I had an emergency. Will I automatically be suspended?
No. SafeRide understands that legitimate emergencies and unexpected circumstances happen. Communication is extremely important. A volunteer who communicates responsibly is viewed differently from someone who simply stops responding or fails to appear.
Does paying the fee guarantee me a volunteer shift?
No. Reinstatement restores eligibility to participate. Shift availability, scheduling, waitlists, and other normal volunteer procedures still apply.
Does the reinstatement fee count toward my required community-service hours?
No. Reinstatement fees do not count as community service. Only hours that are actually worked and verified may be reported as completed community-service hours.
What if I need my hours completed before an upcoming court deadline?
A court or probation deadline does not override SafeRide’s attendance or safety requirements. Volunteers must still be properly rested, prepared, sober, alert, and capable of safely performing the assignment.
Can SafeRide decline to reinstate me even if I am willing to pay?
Yes. Reinstatement is offered only when SafeRide determines that a volunteer remains eligible to participate. Some serious safety, conduct, dishonesty, or repeated violations may result in permanent ineligibility.
What happens if I have another problem after reinstatement?
Depending on the circumstances, another qualifying violation after a first reinstatement may result in suspension and a $100 Final Reinstatement requirement. Another serious violation after Final Reinstatement may result in permanent ineligibility for the SafeRide volunteer program.
Our goal is a safe, dependable volunteer program.
SafeRide’s goal is to maintain a volunteer program that respects the volunteers who participate, the professional drivers who depend on them, the customers we serve, and the other individuals who are trying to complete community-service requirements.
If you make a commitment, communicate with us, arrive prepared, and put safety first, you should have no difficulty remaining in good standing with the SafeRide America volunteer program.
SafeRide America reserves the right to evaluate volunteer eligibility, safety, conduct, attendance, and reinstatement on a case-by-case basis consistent with program requirements.
